He was the loving son of the late Francis and Maria (Schopp) Desmond. William graduated from Gate of Heaven Catholic High School in South Boston. He served in the United States Navy during Vietnam. William was an avid reader, book collector and book dealer for many years, up until he passed away. He was extremely proud of achieving the title of Grand Marshall of the St. Patrick's Day Parade in South Boston. William enjoyed marching in the parade every year.
